With a lot of information, resources and learning opportunities being released alongside the aged care reforms, it can be difficult to know what is most relevant to your service.
At the Support Hub, part of our role is to help cut through the information and highlight practical tools, resources and opportunities that may support you and your workforce to implement the reforms with confidence.
Here are a few things worth knowing about this month.
24/7 RN exemption applications – NATSIFACP providers
The Department of Health, Disability and Ageing has provided updated guidance for NATSIFACP providers seeking an exemption from the 24/7 Registered Nurse (RN) requirement.
Eligible residential aged care homes in MM 5, 6 or 7 locations with no more than 30 operational beds can apply for an exemption for up to 12 months at a time.
Providers applying for an exemption must demonstrate that they have taken reasonable steps to ensure residents’ clinical care needs continue to be met, including having appropriate alternative clinical care arrangements in place. These may include access to nearby clinical services, an on-call RN, GP or nurse practitioner, or telehealth services.
The Department has also provided guidance on suitable supporting evidence, including written agreements, statutory declarations, clearly defined staff roles and service rosters.

Learning opportunity: Culturally Inclusive Care
The Department of Health, Disability and Ageing has brought together a range of training, education and professional development opportunities to support the aged care sector.
This month, we're highlighting the Culturally Inclusive Care short course series, developed by the Multicultural Communities Council of Illawarra.
The free online series explores how aged care workers and services can provide culturally inclusive care for older people from diverse backgrounds. Courses include:
• Culturally inclusive service delivery
• Working with new and emerging communities
• Culture and dementia
• Culture and trauma-informed care
• Culture and quality care
• Understanding Australian aged care: A guide for CALD workers
The courses align with the strengthened Aged Care Quality Standards, the Aged Care Act 2024 and the Statement of Rights.

Crest NT is hosting a Dementia Caregiver High Tea on Wednesday, 23 September 2026.
