Ninti One began in 2003 as a not-for-profit, independent national company with a mission to build opportunities for people in remote Australia through applied research, innovation and community development.

Early roots trace back to our role in operating the Desert Knowledge Cooperative Research Centre, which focused on practical research to support remote livelihoods and economic participation; over time Ninti One expanded beyond that remit to lead and partner on a wide range of projects addressing remote service access, policy implementation and community-led development.

From its early years, Ninti One grew a distinctive model grounded in on-ground engagement, employing Aboriginal Community Researchers across remote regions to bring local knowledge and cultural insight into research and evaluation work.

Over the last two decades the organisation has established itself as one of Australia’s largest Indigenous-owned and led professional services firms, registered with Supply Nation and delivering hundreds of projects for government, community and sector partners that translate evidence into practical outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
