Good Two-Way Governance in Remote

Aboriginal communities needs you to:

• Be organized and have the resources

to plan and do the work.

• Be culturally aware and able to

communicate safely between

different languages, cultures and

systems.

Two-Way Governance also needs to

think about Traditional Owners, if the

organisation’s work means doing things

on Aboriginal lands.

Under the Aboriginal Land Rights Act,

any work needs the approval of

Traditional Owners.

Two Way Governance: Presentation 17

Ranger groups do most of their work on some else’s country, whether

its on land or sea. They make sure the right people know about this and

approve the work BEFORE they go out and do it.

Shire Councils and government departments get leases from TOs to

build offices or reserve land for shops and other businesses.
