Review of the admission or referral to and the discharge and transfer practices of public mental health facilities/services in Western Australia

Abstract:
The Review was established by the Mental Health Commission and the Department of Health to examine the services provided at North and South Metropolitan Health Services, WA Country Health Service, and Child and Adolescent Health Service. The main reason for the Review was to ensure that WA has system-wide compliance with admission and discharge policies and to make sure they were effective for patients, carers and families, and clinicians. The scope of the Review included public hospital emergency departments, inpatient mental health services and community mental health services. It also included extensive research, interviews with individuals with mental illness, families, carers, the Council of Official Visitors, Mental Health Advisory Council, WA Association of Mental Health Consumers, as well as a broad range of clinicians, service providers and other groups.
