Tom Calma AO

Professor Tom Calma AO is an Aboriginal Elder from the Kungarakan tribal group and a member of the Iwaidja and Woolwonga tribal groups in the Northern Territory. He lives and works on Ngunnawal Country in Canberra.

Professor Calma has had a distinguished career across academia, diplomacy and public policy. He has served as National Coordinator of the Tackling Indigenous Smoking program since 2010 and is Professor of Practice (Indigenous Engagement) at the University of Sydney. His previous roles include Chancellor of the University of Canberra, Co-Chair of Reconciliation Australia and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Social Justice Commissioner.

Professor Calma has been a Ninti Board member since 2009 and Chair of Ninti One Limited since 2011. He was named Senior Australian of the Year in 2023.
