Training with Apunipima

When TIS teams recruit new staff, team leaders will often request face-to-face training from their NBPU TIS Program Officers to help strengthen team knowledge and confidence in delivering the program.

On 14–15 April 2026, I visited Apunipima and NPAWS in Cairns to provide tailored training for the TIS teams servicing Cape York communities.

The training covered a range of key topics, including:

  • TIS Program Review
  • National TIS Workers Yarning Group Facebook page
  • TIS Website
  • Targeted Priority Groups
  • Partner Mapping – interactive content
  • Activity Ideas and Planning – interactive content
  • AIMS 1, 2 & 3, Calls to Action and Very Brief Advice
  • Workplace Smoking/Vaping Policy
  • Monitoring and Evaluation
  • Activity Work Plans and Performance Reports

It was a valuable opportunity to share knowledge, strengthen skills and support the teams in delivering effective and culturally responsive TIS activities across Cape York.

If your TIS team would like tailored training, please contact your NBPU TIS Program Officer to arrange a session.
