Ngaanyatjarra Health (NGH) has taken a thoughtful and collaborative approach to improving the weekend hampers provided to clients, following valuable feedback from clients, aged care staff and community members. While the original hampers met basic needs, staff recognised an opportunity to better align them with the cultural preferences and everyday realities of Elders living in community settings.
In response, NGH worked closely with clients, communities, dieticians and staff to redesign the hampers, ensuring they included practical, shelf‑stable ingredients suited to shared meals and remote living conditions. The updated hampers now feature more culturally appropriate foods – such as roo tail – and are supported by visual resources to help clients easily identify and choose items, resulting in overwhelmingly positive feedback from communities.
This initiative highlights NGH’s strong commitment to culturally responsive care and continuous improvement, demonstrating the value of listening to community voices. By embedding feedback into service design, NGH is delivering care that is not only practical but also respectful, meaningful and better aligned with the lifestyles of the people they support.
