The Department of Health, Disability and Ageing has provided updated guidance for NATSIFACP providers seeking an exemption from the 24/7 Registered Nurse (RN) requirement.
NATSIFACP providers with residential aged care homes in MM 5, 6 or 7 location with no more than 30 operational beds can apply for an exemption for up to 12 months at a time.
Providers applying for an exemption must demonstrate that they have taken reasonable steps to ensure residents’ clinical care needs continue to be met, including having alternative clinical care arrangements. These may include access to nearby clinical services, an on-call RN, GP or nurse practitioner, or telehealth services.
The Department has also provided guidance on suitable supporting evidence, including written agreements, statutory declarations, clearly defined staff roles and service rosters.
