Western Australia 2026 Wrap Up

This year has been a busy one for the Tackling Indigenous Smoking and Vaping workforce here in Western Australia. Our teams have been working hard to deliver, monitor and report on their campaigns, while navigating the constantly shifting landscape of tobacco and vaping control.

My year started strong, with reporting periods filling calendars quickly and new vaping legislation rolling out across the state. I coordinated a WA TIS Coordinators Networking Forum, bringing team leaders from KAMS, GRAMS and Mawarnkarra to Perth. It was a great chance for us to meet in person, share ideas and build a shared vision for the year ahead.

In May, teams celebrated World No Tobacco Day with their communities, and soon after, the NBPU TIS hosted the National TIS Workforce Workshop in Darwin, giving all WA teams the chance to come together, learn and reconnect.

Throughout the year I travelled across the state, Perth, Kalgoorlie, Broome, Bunbury and Geraldton, delivering TIS toolkit training and spending time with teams on the ground. The discussions, ideas and connections built during those visits brought the kind of support that keeps this program moving forward.

Bega Garnbirringu, KAMS, SWAMS and Mawarnkarra all welcomed new coordinators, and new staff joined TIS programs right across WA. It has been a big year for everyone, and I’m proud of what we’ve achieved together.

2025 has set a strong foundation. I’m looking forward to seeing the growth, progress and transformation that 2026 brings to the West.
