Stronger Communities for Children (SCfC)

Recently, the SCfC network gathered on Larrakia Country in Darwin for two major events — the Knowledge Sharing Seminar and the Youth Leadership Forum.

Both gatherings showcased the power of community-led work and the strong partnerships driving the SCfC program. As the Implementation Support Provider, Ninti One is proud to walk alongside communities as they continue to shape their own pathways to a strong, connected, and thriving future.

Knowledge Sharing Seminar (KSS)

The Knowledge Sharing Seminar brought together Local Community Board members and Facilitating Partner teams from all ten SCfC communities — Maningrida, Gunbalanya, Lajamanu, Ntaria, Ltyentye Apurte, Galiwin’ku, Wadeye, Ngukurr, Plenty Highway, and Utopia Homelands — along with representatives from program funders the National Indigenous Australians Agency.

The seminar provided a welcoming space for people to:

  • Share stories and celebrate what’s working well in their communities.
  • Exchange ideas and learn from each other’s experiences.
  • Strengthen connections across regions, languages, and cultures.

A key theme this year was measuring local change in ways that matter to communities.
Through hands-on sessions with the KOWA Collaboration, participants co-created practical tools to track positive change based on community-defined strengths such as identity, wellbeing, belonging, and participation.

This work supports the program’s ongoing commitment to:

  • Indigenous Data Sovereignty, empowering communities to lead how their stories and data are understood and shared.
  • Closing the Gap Priority Reform 4, ensuring data is used in ways that strengthen partnerships and accountability across the SCfC network.

Youth Leadership Forum (YLF)

Held alongside the KSS, the Youth Leadership Forum — delivered in partnership with Penangke Cultural Consultants — brought together young people from SCfC communities for a gathering focused on connection, confidence, and leadership.

The Forum created a culturally safe and supportive space where young leaders could:

  • Connect with peers from other communities.
  • Build their confidence and leadership skills.
  • Share ideas and aspirations for their community’s future.

Through engaging workshops, yarning circles, and creative sessions, participants strengthened their sense of identity and leadership. Many young people spoke about gaining new confidence, inspiration, and ideas to take home — reinforcing the key role of youth voices in shaping stronger communities for all.

With every gathering, the SCfC program continues to show what’s possible when communities lead the way and are supported to design their own futures. Ninti One is proud to stand alongside these communities, supporting local strengths, leadership, and knowledge that make meaningful change possible.
