Sharing our stories – Vic Daly site visit
In a very wet January week, Trevor Satour, Ljubica Petrov and Caitlin Olliver, met with Vic Daly Regional Council staff in a combined SDAP / NATSIFAC Support Hub site visit. Original plans to visit Pine Creek and Naiuyu sites were disrupted by bad weather, and a mutual decision was made to continue yarning in Katherine.
Our sessions with Gillian Molloy (Director of Community Services) and Sagar Chand (Community Care Regional Manager), plus other staff, created a positive and productive relationship with Vic Daly Council and laid strong foundations for the next phase of work.
During the visit, the team facilitated a standards session, mapping the Aged Care Quality Standards to the council’s specific policies and procedures and highlighting links to relevant Commission templates. A NATSIFACP Support Hub update explored how the site visit and a broader change management plan could align with the new Act, including how staff can be trained and supported in their roles, particularly around cultural safety. Other key topics included associate providers, dementia and palliative care, marketing and service promotion, and meal planning and nutrition, with practical suggestions and resource links offered throughout.
Despite the challenges of the wet season and rapidly changing local conditions, the visit concluded with a clear roadmap and agreement on a post‑Easter follow‑up visit, including time at the head office and a trip out to a NATSIFAC service location. The week demonstrated a growing sense of shared purpose and commitment to strengthening aged care services across the region.
