Connecting with TIS Teams Across the Northern Territory

Recently, I had the opportunity to travel to Alice Springs alongside Eileen to meet with the Tackling Indigenous Smoking (TIS) teams from the Central Australian Aboriginal Congress and Anyinginyi Health Aboriginal Corporation. This trip was an important step in building strong relationships and opening lines of communication with the incredible teams working on the ground across the Northern Territory.

Following our time in Alice Springs, I joined Penney Upton for a series of meetings in Darwin. We caught up with Krystal from Danila Dilba Health Service and later sat down with David and Ayesha from AMSANT. Although we haven’t yet officially met with AMSANT in a full capacity, these initial introductions have laid the groundwork for future engagement.

This trip served not only as my first real chance to connect with the TIS teams in the NT, but also to introduce the work of the National Best Practice Unit (NBPU). We had some great discussions about how we can support the teams in their activities, from campaign development and community outreach to training and capacity building.

It was inspiring to hear the passion and dedication each team brings to their communities and I look forward to continuing to work together to strengthen and support their vital efforts.

This trip reinforced just how important collaboration and open dialogue are in achieving our shared goals. I’m grateful for the warm welcome we received and excited about the possibilities that lie ahead.
