Message from the Executive Program Lead NBPU TIS, Eileen Van Iersel
Thank you to all teams who submitted Activity Work Plans and Performance Reports. We acknowledge the timing has not been ideal and appreciate the effort made to meet these reporting requirements. NBPU staff remain available to support teams as needed.
We continue to observe a wide range of innovative activities being implemented across the program. These contributions are recognised as important in progressing our shared goal of reducing exposure to smoking and vaping in community settings.
In recent weeks, I visited the La Perouse team with Program Officer (QLD, NSW) Sonette Johnson. Opportunities to engage directly with service providers remain important to the work of the NBPU and to the broader evidence base.
A number of Ninti One and TIS staff participated in NAIDOC events across the country, including the Adelaide march, NAIDOC in the North and community football rounds. If you would like to share images or summaries from your NAIDOC events, we welcome those contributions.
A special mention that the 2026 National NAIDOC Ball will be held on my Country, Mparntwe (Alice Springs). This is exciting news for the community and a powerful reminder of the strength that continues to rise, even when the headlines don’t reflect it.
Planning is underway for the 2025 National TIS CEO Workshop, scheduled for 2 September in Sydney. This forum will provide an opportunity for funded CEOs to engage with the Department of Health and Aged Care, the National Evaluators, and the National TIS Coordinator, Professor Tom Calma. Further details will follow.
