Message from the Executive Program Lead NBPU TIS, Eileen Van Iersel

It’s hard to believe how quickly the year has progressed. As we look back, it’s clear that 2025 has been an incredibly productive period across the Tackling Indigenous Smoking Program. The work led by teams across the country continues to strengthen communities and contribute to real health outcomes.

As we approach the end of the year, I’d like to remind teams that Performance Reports are due to the NBPU by 31 January 2026. Given the upcoming Christmas closure period, it is recommended that drafting begins early to ensure reports can be finalised in time.

Planning is also underway for the 2026 Jurisdictional Workshops. These sessions will provide an opportunity to collaborate, share progress and explore key priorities for the next reporting period. A short survey will be distributed in late November to assist with planning, as the first workshop will be held in March 2026.

To help us strengthen communication and ensure we’re meeting your needs, we encourage all teams to complete the Yarning Group and Newsletter Survey. Your input directly informs how we share information and support you across the network.

I also encourage all teams to consider submitting an abstract for the 2026 PHAA Prevention Conference. The conference is a key opportunity to showcase the innovative approaches and community-led strategies being delivered through TIS. Presenting at PHAA not only strengthens the visibility of your work but also contributes to the national conversation on prevention and tobacco control.

Thank you again for your continued commitment and the impact you bring to communities through ycour work.
