Australia and Solomon Islands advance justice through partnership
Over the past few months, Ninti One has been proud to walk alongside two delegations from the Solomon Islands through the Australia–Solomon Islands Partnership for Justice.
The first delegation travelled to the Gold Coast, on Bundjalung Country, to attend the Overcoming Indigenous Family Violence Forum. This powerful gathering brought together First Nations leaders and practitioners who are responding to the deep and complex drivers of family violence through community-led, trauma-informed approaches. One delegate described the experience as “deeply enriching and grounding,” capturing the strength, honesty and cultural authority that shaped the forum.
The second delegation took part in the Reintegration Puzzle Conference in Mparntwe (Alice Springs), on Arrernte Country. With a focus on supporting people transitioning out of the justice system, the conference created space for truth-telling, connection and the exchange of practical strategies. Delegates from the Solomon Islands brought their own insights and lived realities, contributing to a rich and respectful cross-cultural dialogue.
These experiences reflect the rich exchange of knowledge between First Nations peoples and our Solomon Islands partners, grounded in culture, community and mutual learning. It has been an honour to stand alongside our partners as they build strong relationships with First Nations organisations and continue working toward justice systems that reflect the strengths of their communities.
