Workforce joins Grand Pacific Health’s 3×3 Mind Over Matter event
On 10 December, I joined Ronnie and Barb to attend Grand Pacific Health’s 3on3 Mind Over Matter event on Yuin Country in Merimbula. Hosted by the GPH We Breathe TIS team, the day brought together high school students from across the Bega Valley for a vibrant mix of culture, creativity and healthy lifestyle messages.
The energy across the event was incredible, and it gave young people the space to express themselves, connect and build confidence. Some of the standout moments for me included:
• Drum workshops that encouraged rhythm, teamwork and self-belief • Art workshops with Kevin Kropinyeri, sparking creativity and cultural pride • Rap workshops led by Nooky, giving students the chance to tell their stories in their own voice • 3on3 basketball games that built fitness, leadership and camaraderie
Together, these activities created a culturally strong and welcoming environment where young people felt supported to explore their strengths and make positive choices.
The Health Expo added another layer of impact. Services from across the region engaged students in meaningful conversations about wellbeing, smoke-free living and the supports available in their communities. It was a standout day that highlighted the commitment of GPH and local partners to empowering Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander youth.
In the lead-up to the event, our NBPU TIS team also visited Winnunga Aboriginal Medical Service. It was great to catch up with Adrian and Lateisha to hear about their programs, workforce priorities and aspirations for 2026. The discussion strengthened our partnership and helped ensure alignment across our workforce and health promotion efforts.
I left the trip feeling energised by the creativity and strength of the young people we met, and grateful for the dedication of the teams working alongside them.
