Message from the National Program Manager NBPU TIS, Eileen Van Iersel

As May comes to an end, the team has been working behind the scenes planning Activity Work Plans, delivering and facilitating training and putting the final touches on our upcoming National TIS Workers Workshop, which will be held on 11–12 June on Larakia country .

We’ve been thrilled by the strong interest and high number of registrations for the Workshop. Thank you to everyone who has signed up, we’re so excited to see you all there. Our goal is to deliver an event that not only connects TIS teams from across the country, but helps to build the cultural and institutional knowledge that is vital to sustaining the TIS Program well into the future. We can’t wait to listen, learn and share with you all.

Next week marks National Reconciliation Week (27 May – 3 June). This year’s theme is ‘Bridging Now to Next’ a powerful call to reflect on our journey so far and consider the steps needed to move forward together. At NBPU TIS, this aligns strongly with our own ongoing efforts to ensure the TIS Program remains fit for purpose, impactful and responsive to the needs of communities. I also want to reiterate Kerindy’s message from the last newsletter, it can be a big and emotional week for mob, so please remember to look after yourselves and take breaks when you need them.

Reconciliation Week also coincides with World No Tobacco Day on 31 May, an important global day of action to raise awareness about the harms of tobacco and to encourage efforts toward a tobacco free world. Our NBPU Program Officers will be out and about attending various TIS led World No Tobacco Day events, be sure to share these with us in the National TIS Workers Yarning Group on Facebook or send to Astrid Innes our Marketing and Communications Manager. We’re looking forward to sharing some of the photos and stories with you in next month’s edition of the newsletter.

That’s all from me for now. I look forward to seeing you in June at the National TIS Workers’ Workshop!
