You can then say what you think the

meeting is about. For example:

You can invite the visitors to say what

they think the meeting is about and

whether they would like to add anything.

You can spell out the way the meeting

will run, with a nominated Chairperson.

This could be the Chairperson of your

organisation or someone with special

knowledge of what you’re talking about,

like the Chairperson of the School

Council.

Talk about the ground rules for the

meeting.

‘This meeting of The Local Advisory Group has been called to review

the Local Implementation Plan for education.’

‘The meeting needs the attention and respect of all taking

part if it is to work. Please understand many of the people you

are dealing with have cultural authority and respect the need

to listen carefully to what they say.’
