

In this case there is a seconder.
The Chairperson asks the Mover to do
what is called ‘
speak to the motion
’, in
other words put forward an argument as
to why the Board should support the
motion and decide to get a quote for
new vehicles.
Once the mover has finished explaining
why the Board should support the
motion, the Chairperson asks if anyone
wants to speak against the motion.
If there is, they get equal time to tell
the Board why they
shouldn’t
support
the motion.
The Chairperson will then ask the
seconder if they want to speak. But
the seconder might decide to ‘reserve’
their reply, which means they choose to
speak later in the discussion if
need be.
