When the Board gets to General

Business, the Chairperson asks for a

Motion

(an idea about what to do) on

the cars.

One of the Board Members (

the Mover

)

says: I move we ask for quotes from two

dealers for replacing our cars. The quote

should include a trade-in value on our

existing cars.’

That’s all he or she needs to say at

this stage.

The Chairperson asks for a seconder for

the motion. The

seconder

is someone

who agrees with the idea.

If there is no seconder, the motion

‘lapses’ (it doesn’t go ahead).

Once a motion lapses, you can’t talk

about it again at the same meeting.

It has to be brought up at another

meeting.

I second that.
