If the Board is thinking about new cars,

for instance, and you have a car

business, you can’t join in discussion or

vote on who the organisation buys its

cars from.

That’s a conflict of interest.

You or a member of your family can’t

gain money or power because of what

you know and do as a Director.

You should also be careful you don’t

use your position on the Board to make

things turn out better for a member of

your family.

Trying to get a job with the organisation

for your brother or sister is using your

power the wrong way.

It’s called

nepotism

and it could get

you sacked from the Board.
