NBPU TIS visits the West

In mid-February, NBPU’s National Manager Eileen and WA Program Officer Onike visited three WA teams for a catch up and update. On Monday 17 February, Eileen and Onike met with Geraldton Regional Aboriginal Medical Service (GRAMS) CEO Deborah Woods, TIS Coordinator Brent Walker and Program Director Davies Chibale at their corporate office in Rivervale. The meeting was positive, shining light on the achievements TIS has made and solutions to complex matters relating to TIS, the group discussed challenges, goals and workforce training needs for 2025 and onwards, as well as innovative ways to work together more constructively and collaboratively with NBPU.

On Tuesday morning, Eileen and Onike caught up with the Derbarl Yerrigan Health Services (DYHS) TIS team, Zachary, Gemma, Ragilen and Ethan at their Office in East Perth. The group highlighted their successes for the last 12 months and some exciting prospects and partnerships to look forward to for the next 12. Onike ran through some TIS training refreshers for the team and everyone shared some infights into the latest trends in vaping and youth matters locally. Later that day, NBPU met with Derbarl’s acting CEO Dr Dan Hunt and his executive team who were given a strategic overview of what’s happening the TIS space from a strategic the National Program Manager’s perspective.

On the Wednesday morning, Eileen and Onike concluded their visits with a trip down Bunbury in the scenic South West region of WA. We met with the TIS team at South West Aboriginal Medical Service (SWAMS) which has grown to full capacity and thriving. The team shared their latest activities with priority populations including schools and upcoming basketball carnival. Their new social media campaign is also in the works with special guest features.
