The Remote Community Mining Toolkit

Ninti One continues to publish research findings from the Enduring Community Value from Mining research program of the Cooperative Research Centre for Remote Economic Participation (CRC-REP). Researchers Anne Fordham, Stuart Robertson, Jen Cleary, Boyd Blackwell and John Van Leeuwen recently attained an A* publication for their paper ‘Use of a multiple capital framework to identify improvements in the corporate social responsibility strategies of Australian resource companies’, in Journal of Cleaner Production.

The project developed a Remote Community Mining Toolkit, designed to help community people influence decision-making about resource developments in their communities. The toolkit comprises:

  • a document that describes who the main actors are and what decisions are being made across the lifecycle of a mine
  • a poster checklist, one-page summary of the key things community members should consider when a resource development is proposed
  • three short films (see below).
