Abstract: Sam is currently conducting a series of interviews as part of his PhD research in tri-state remote communities in Central Australia. This paper examines the methodological challenges in privileging the voices and standpoints of senior community members in the critical conversation about education, young people and the future. Are the voices of senior community members ignored in the education conversation? Are they still relevant in a post-modern world almost unrecognisable to the world they were born into? Or is it simply a matter of remote educators and leaders not knowing how to ‘hear' these voices and take account of the experience, wisdom and potential they offer to the educational experience for Anangu students? This paper highlights key aspects of the methodological approach Sam is undertaking in his study and also explores some of the emerging issues and challenges that are posed from the data and the collection process. In doing so, it also raises discussion in regards to the challenges and the opportunities for Anangu standpoints in tri-state communities to inform educational leadership and the broader system to improve education outcomes for students.
