Abstract: This section outlines the rationale for the design of the observation schedules, questionnaires, focus group interviews, and the audit of school systems and resources for NALP implementation. The questionnaires and focus group questions were developed in light of the review of the AL methodology, teaching sequence strategies, and implementation logic and systems described in Volume 1. It was imperative for the researchers to have an accurate understanding of all material produced by DET and CDU related to the implementation of NALP in the NT. This combined knowledge of theoretical sources and the organisation of human and material resources within NALP directly informed the design of the various data gathering instruments. The content and structure of the questionnaire and focus group instruments were designed to elicit perceptions of and attitudes towards NALP support systems, and workshop professional development and in-school professional development support as provided by AL school-based coordinators, DET AL team coordinators, school principals and material resources. The following sections give an overview of the design of each instrument.
