Abstract: Despite considerable efforts at the academic level to prepare student teachers for teaching Aboriginal students, most students persist with hegemonic approaches in their teaching upon graduation. One process which appears to have a major influence on attitudes towards teaching Aboriginal students is participation in a teaching practice in an Aboriginal community. In this paper student teacher perceptions of their experiences on such a practice are presented to illustrate the influence of the practice on their view of teaching Aboriginal students
