Abstract: The recent debate about Australia’s future population has focused squarely on issues of the size of the national population, yet there is a long standing discussion about the distribution of the population and its high level of concentration in capital cities and coastal areas. This Policy Brief examines changing patterns of population distribution in Australia and some policy implications.
