Abstract: After teaching Society and Culture since its introduction in NSW schools in 1987 I have always tried to put the course values of Social and Cultural Literacy into practice in my life and my teaching and demonstrate these as real and powerful to the students with whom I have worked. I have applied these in the classroom, on excursions in Sydney, in regional NSW and overseas. However, the most demanding and rewarding application of these values in my personal and professional experience has been in working with Anangu communities of Mutitjulu, Kaltukatjara (Docker River) and Imanpa in lands around Uluru in the Northern Territory.
