Abstract: Overall, the Australian population is ageing. The 2018 median Australian age was 37.2, which is estimated to grow to a median age of 39.0 in the year 2028. In 2018, people aged 65 years and over made up 15.6% of Australia’s population. This is projected to increase to 22% in 2061 and to 25% in 2101. As people live longer, the prevalence of chronic diseases will increase, resulting in increased health service utilisation by older Australians.
