Abstract: The effective use of technology to improve people’s health depends on factors beyond the technologies themselves, such as the diseases that affect a population, ease of access to the actual technologies and the level of motivation of the person interacting with the technology. This chapter specifically explores some of these considerations in the context of Australia. Additionally, rural and remote areas of any country or continent will face unique challenges in terms of incorporating technology into healthcare delivery. This chapter will, therefore, examine how technology is being applied in remote and rural Australia giving examples through case studies. It also outlines emerging opportunities for applying digital technologies into the future to support healthier communities in an affordable, accessible way.
