Abstract: Disasters happen, and it is not only natural events that cause them; they can also be the product of social, political and economic environments. However, when talking about human-induced (and possibly preventable) disasters, participants thought that their impact was not fair, and as a consequence they felt more removed from the broader community than just geographically. How this impacts on an individual’s perception of agency in the broader system is discussed.
