Abstract: This paper provides a case study of research interactions between an Arrernte researcher and non-Aboriginal institutional repositories that hold significant collections of Arrernte material culture and cultural knowledge. This paper, although exploratory in nature, is designed to both document and give voice to Aboriginal people who are compelled to engage in research as a means to rediscovering their Aboriginal identities through private efforts to gain knowledge of their kin relationships, language, cultural practice and protocols, and rights to place.
