Abstract: The 2002 NATSISS is the first national survey of Indigenous Australia that includes a transport module and, as such, provides a unique opportunity to examine Indigenous transport needs. The analysis of the transport data in this chapter is approached from an anthropological perspective, comparing this survey data with the ethnographic record. In doing so, I focus primarily on the findings of the remote area NATSISS but I also (as relevant) highlight comparative findings using the data from the non-remote NATSISS and the GSS. My focus reflects the concentration of ethnographic research in remote areas.
