Mining Toolkit

The Remote Community Mining Toolkit is a toolkit designed to help community people influence decision-making about resource developments in their communities.

The toolkit comprises:

  • a document that describes who the main actors are and what decisions are being made across the lifecyle of a mine
  • a poster checklist, one-page summary of the key things community members should consider when a resource development is proposed
  • three short films (see below).

The toolkit was developed from the Enduring Community Value from Mining project of the CRC-REP, which concluded in June 2017. Research in this project aimed to ensure that communities accrue benefits from mining activities in their region. The project developed a systems understanding of the size and flows of benefits and costs generated by mining activity over mine lifecycles in remote communities of Western Australia, Northern Territory and South Australia. More information about this project is available from the project page.

If you have any feedback about the toolkit, please contact Dr Boyd Blackwell: boydbwell@gmail.com. This will be used to improve and update any further editions of the document.
